Why hire professional carpet fitters and suppliers

When a carpet is of poor quality and/or badly fitted, it will not only look bad but will snag, fray, and turn up at the edge. To the untrained eye, it may look like laying carpet is as simple as cutting it out and glueing it to the floor, but the truth is that the process is much more complex.

There are 3 key stages involved in fitting carpet:

Before fitting carpet, carpet grippers or gripper rods need to be fitted to the floor. Grippers are long pieces of wood with small pins that prevent the carpet from slipping and hold it in place. The grippers are cut to size and secured with angled edges facing the skirting boards.
Professional carpet installers will lay down lining paper before, preventing the underlay from sticking to the floor, stopping dust and dirt on the floor from getting through the underlay, and enhancing insulation. The lining paper is secured with a staple gun or a hammer tacker.
The underlay is then laid down, with the rubber side facing down. A Stanley knife is used to cut the underlay level with the gripper rods, and gaps between pieces of underlay should be joined with heavy-duty tape. The underlay should be flat to keep the carpet flat.
Finally, the carpet is unrolled onto the floor. The carpet fitter will cut the carpet to size, including excess at every edge, and use a carpet tucker to crease it into the skirting board for a sharp edge.

We had a great experience with Billy and the team. Their shop is round the corner from our house but they could have been from across the country and it wouldn't have mattered.Firstly they were able to provide both flooring and carpeting services under one deal. They had a wide range of materials to choose from and allowed us to take sample board home to check what they would like. We ordered a special smoked wood that the manufacturer warns varies from the pictures depending on the wood. When the material arrived and was much more blue than the sample boards, the team halted work and communicated with us really well. They brought the rep to the house to confirm the batch wasn't faulty and then gave us the weekend and a bunch of sample boards so that we could double check our choice.Then when we confirmed we were still happy with the choice and they restarted the work they laid a small section in the hallway for one "last check". During works they made sure to protect all our furniture with dust sheets and when the work was complete the place was dusted down and left spotless. We were left with a few surplus materials "just in case" and the price came in exactly as agreed in advance with no hidden extras. I don't know if there are cheaper alternatives, the ones we checked were all in the same ballpark, but I would recommend these guys regardless - they keep their promises, communicate well and deliver a quality finish.Rob, Balham
